Gift A Goal is Gifting Goals flagship initiative. It is centred around the belief that physical activity or wellbeing and togetherness are key to success beyond the pitch – to building strong sustainable, educated communities.
Communities play an integral role in achieving change. Enhancing a sense of togetherness increases community cohesion and the ability to face life’s challenges ‘head on’. Community and team activity develops an intrinsic understanding of working together, leadership, shared ambition, problem solving and successful communication.
We know that sport is an enabler for strong communities and for health and wellbeing. We also know that team based community activity increases inclusivity and equality – working together for a shared purpose and sharing intense experiences – enabling those within the ‘team’ to thrive. And we know that African’s, and in particular Djiboutian’s love football.
Gift A Goal is a project centred on providing the resource, skill and opportunity for children and adults to come together for a common and enjoyable purpose. Projects through the initiative foster fundamental and intrinsic motivators that will enable greater change to be achieved, but more over it will increase children’s ability to stay healthy, prolong engagement in activity – including studies, and generate a sense of purpose for the future.
In many areas of Sub Saharan Africa, children struggle to remain in education. There are many reasons including distance to walk to school, the heat, having to undertake adult roles to support the family, cost of resources, limited school places in rural areas, cost of providing an education system and lack of pre primary education to instill an enjoyment of learning and relevance at a early age.
Donate A Dream is all about the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 – Quality, inclusive, and free public education that leaves no one behind.
Through Donate A Dream Gifting Goals works directly with partners on the ground, including Government officials, to provide resources that enable children to remain in school as well as funding the building and development of pre primary education – early years development.
A key object of Gifting Goals is to provide resource to support the development of a range of projects in Djibouti. Our annual trip to the region enables us to take resources and to provide an element of training for professionals and local communities. Each year we observe and listen to what is needed in order to have greatest impact for the community, with the aim of being able to respond on our next visit.
Our visits enable us to deliver on our key flagship project – Gift A Goal. The development of a sense of team and community is crucial for communities to respond to the effects of climate crisis as well as creating the key sense of belonging that will enable children to thrive in their learning. During our annual visit we deliver the proceeds of our Gift A Goals campaign and provide support, resource and training for physical development – another key aspect of being able to thrive in challenging circumstances.
The trip also enables attendees to learn more about the country and what life is like in an area of the world so contrasting to our own – then having the knowledge to continue to raise awareness at home. Each year we ensure we have teachers on our trips who can take direct learning back to children in their schools and of course enabling children in the UK to see first hand the effects of their fundraising and the joy that it brings.
